HVAC Electrical Diagnostics

These workshops are designed to help the beginning HVAC professional "get it right the first time," and to provide a refresher for the more experienced technician.

Course Description

 

Basic HVAC Electrical Diagnostics I

This workshop covers the basics of electrical diagnostics:

  • Understanding of HVAC electrical terminology
  • Introduction to motors
  • Basic understanding of both run and start capacitors
  • Introduction to HVAC electrical components
  • Reading simple wiring diagrams of control circuits
  • Studying the use of quality electrical test instruments and their use in troubleshooting

Basic HVAC Wiring I

This workshop provides technicians with an understanding of and practice in wiring associated with low voltage controls for HVAC systems. Elements covered:

  • Electrical and electronic controls
  • Electric strip heat
  • Color codes
  • Wiring sizes
  • Component wiring and operation for cooling, heating and defrost.
  • Component boards complete to be wired properly by students

Prerequisite  ::  Basic HVAC Electrical Diagnostics I or equivalent experience

HVAC Electrical Skills I

This workshop provides technicians with an in-depth understanding of electricity as it applies to HVAC systems and emphasizes the critical nature of electrical trouble shooting procedures and their impact on equipment performance and life. Elements covered:

  • Electrical laws and principals
  • Electrical components
  • System airflow and psychometrics
  • Dehydration
  • Charging

Attendees will debug actual systems with typical electrical problems.

Who Should Attend

  • Basic HVAC Electrical Diagnostics I  ::  HVAC technicians, entry level, with some field experience
  • Basic HVAC Wiring I  ::  HVAC technicians with some field experience who want to increase their troubleshooting skills
  • HVAC Electrical Skills I  ::  HVAC technicians with more field experience who want to master their troubleshooting skills
