HVAC Refrigeration Diagnostics Series

This course is designed to set HVAC professionals apart from their competition in the installation, troubleshooting and/or inspection of HVAC equipment. The techniques taught may be used in both new homes or in a replacement, diagnostic or remodeling situation.

Who Should Attend

  • Refrigeration Diagnostics I  ::  HVAC technicians, entry level, with some field experience
  • Refrigeration Diagnostics II  ::  HVAC technicians with some field experience who want to increase their troubleshooting skills
  • Refrigeration Diagnostics III  ::  HVAC technicians with more field experience who want to master their troubleshooting skills

Description

Refrigeration Diagnostics I

This session introduces the refrigeration cycle and air conditioning equipment components. It covers:

  • Components of the refrigeration system
  • Refrigerant states
  • Saturation
  • Superheat
  • Subcooling
  • High-pressure and low-pressure switches
  • Refrigerant flow controls (fixed, TXV, electric, electronic)
  • The coil
  • The importance of "matched systems"

Refrigeration Diagnostics II

A continuation of part I, this workshop further strengthens the troubleshooting skills. Topics include:

  • System BTU capacity
  • Charging systems properly
  • Leak testing
  • Compressor testing and replacement
  • Refrigerant recovery and evacuation
  • Trouble-shooting system problems

Refrigeration Diagnostics III

This workshop provides technicians with:

  • An in-depth understanding of the refrigeration cycle and its components for central air conditioners and heat pumps
  • A complete discussion of the critical nature of airflow, evacuation, and charging
  • Proper training so that technicians can perform these service procedures correctly

Elements include:

  • The refrigeration cycle
  • Indoor air flow and psychometrics
  • Brazing
  • Evacuation and dehydration
  • Charging
  • Piping
  • Equipment performance
