Research

The building science team provides applied research services that continually raise the bar on best-of-breed practices in the design and construction of houses and small commercial buildings. Government agencies and private industry alike come to Advanced Energy for assistance. For many years now, our specialists have been recognized as national experts by these groups when they need scientifically valid answers, rather than speculation, about issues affecting:

  • Building occupant comfort
  • Durability
  • Indoor air quality
  • Energy consumption

New Studies Show Energy Star and Guaranteed Performance Homes are a Catalyst for Market Transformation

New studies show that the bar has been raised for home energy performance in the
Phoenix area as a result of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Energy Star® and various guaranteed performance home programs. These programs have been instrumental in the education and training of consumers, builders and contractors about the benefits and construction of higher performing homes.

Groundbreaking Study on Links Between High Performance Houses and Health

Is the air in your home making your family sick or is it actually about to kill one of you? With asthma, allergy, and other respiratory health issues on the rise, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) wants some answers.

Why is the problem getting worse? Is there a link between current energy-efficient construction practices and this rise? Those and other questions are ones that HUD has funded Advanced Energy to help them answer. Our building science research specialists will work with a collaborative team that includes experts from the world of medicine and health to get to the bottom of these issues.

What's Up with Crawl Space Construction Practices?

The U.S. Department of Energy is interested in knowing whether current crawl space construction methods represent best practices, or whether some new thinking needs to be applied. For example, are there valid and affordable ways to construct a crawl space that will help reduce the mold growth that affects indoor air quality? Can those same practices improve energy efficiency? Read more about the research that's already been completed and where it's headed.

Benefits of Working with Advanced Energy

Our building specialists work continually with residential and commercial building owners, developers, and HVAC contractors to perform diagnostics on the tough cases. Construction practices as well as building materials themselves continue to evolve. Add to that the unique environmental factors and constantly changing HVAC equipment that must be considered. That's why we developed our SystemVision™ concept — because we know that only by understanding the "building as a system" can you get to the heart of the matter.

Why come to Advanced Energy for your research? Chances are that our work experience has already helped us develop some very good hunches about your specific challenge — putting your organization miles ahead on that research project!
