MICROCELL “I strongly believe hydrogen is the fuel of the future… It has the potential – a vast potential to dramatically cut our dependence on foreign oil. Hydrogen is clean, hydrogen is domestically produced and hydrogen is the way of the future.” George W. Bush, U.S. President,
Formed in 2000 with seed funding from Advanced Energy, Microcell Corp. is an emerging fuel cell company pursuing development and commercialization of a novel approach to fuel cell fabrication based on microfiber technology. In general, microfiber technology is a mature business with over 20 years of application in a variety of industries, including membrane separation industries, telecommunications and textiles. However, Microcell is the only company to apply this technology to the fuel cell market. Through its patented extrusion process, Microcell is able to mass produce all the components of a fuel cell in a single microfiber less than one millimeter in diameter. This process dramatically reduces the cost and time required to manufacture fuel cells. Due to the numerous advantages provided by Microcell’s technology, the company is poised for significant penetration into the distributed generation, automotive and portable electronics markets. During the past five years, the company has made significant progress towards commercialization of its fuel cell technology including the formation of strategic partnerships with major public utility holding companies Pepco Holdings Inc. (NYSE: POM), Progress Energy (NYSE: PGN) and Duke Energy Corp. (NYSE: DUK). Microcell is headed by former Advanced Energy employees. Prior to the company's startup, Advanced Energy's world-class laboratory served as an incubator for the research of this emerging technology. Learn more about Microcell at www.microcellcorp.com .
