Building Back Better Seminar Presented in Kinston

July 13, 2000

Advanced Energy, in conjunction with the North Carolina Solar Center, presented a workshop and briefing session in Kinston on May 22 on strategies for new housing construction in the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd, entitled Building Back Better: Successful Strategies for Community Development . This free seminar was geared toward local and state housing officials and organizations. About fifty people attended, including non-profit developers, a modular home manufacturer, various contractors, and a structural insulated panels dealer. This session was designed to be a kick-off for future Advanced Energy training and activity to promote safe, healthy, durable, comfortable, affordable, and energy efficient building practices.

Arnie Katz of Advanced Energy participated in the planning of the event and was a featured speaker. Mayor Johnnie Mosley of Kinston welcomed attendees to the city, and Rick Carlisle, the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Commerce, was on-hand to offer his department's perspective on the flood recovery effort. Sponsored by the Energy Division, this session was cosponsored by the Division of Emergency Management, the Eastern North Carolina Sustainable Community Economic Development Center, and Electricities of North Carolina.
