Builders Building Better Homes in Triad Area

Local Contractor awarded for SystemVision® approach to building

SystemVision Logo [RALEIGH] – The high performance home is quickly becoming the home of choice for some builders in the Triad area. Nineteen builders teamed up to build houses for the Greensboro Habitat for Humanity Builders Blitz, which began on Sept. 18. Five days later, they completed 12 new Habitat homes. All houses were constructed using the SystemVision® program.

SystemVision® requires that special attention be given to air, heat and moisture flow as well as pressure balancing to ensure that the homes function efficiently and comfortably – guaranteed! [Typical homes built without SystemVision® may have problems such as hot or cold rooms, back drafting from appliances, and excessive mold and mildew due to moisture buildup and contaminated air that may enter from the attic or crawl space.]

As part of the Blitz, a Duct Tightness Competition was held for heating and cooling contractors. The ducts of all houses were tested for leaks, as is required by the SystemVision® program. For the second consecutive year, Air Comfort Heating and Air Conditioning won the award, sponsored by RCD Corp., a maker of duct sealing products. RCD also provided duct sealing material for the Blitz.

“This award is important to us,” said Barry Edwards, Air Comfort Heating and Air Conditioning owner. “It recognizes our efforts in providing services that go beyond what is required of our industry, providing greater comfort and energy efficiency to our customers.”

In partnership with the N.C. Community Development Initiative and the N.C. Housing Finance Agency, the SystemVision® affordable housing program helps nonprofit housing developers build houses that are affordable, durable, healthier and guaranteed to be energy efficient and comfortable.

The SystemVision® initiative was started by Advanced Energy in 2000, certifying more than 500 North Carolina homes and more than 50,000 homes nationwide in the past four years. Learn more at www.systemvision.org.
