Advanced Energy makes positive impacts in North Carolina's affordable housing market

Impacting Builders

Through a unique energy efficient program called SystemVision®, Advanced Energy's Applied Building Science Team is able to help nonprofit housing developers build houses that are affordable, durable, healthier and guaranteed to be energy efficient and comfortable. The SystemVision® process consists of six energy efficient steps:

  • plan review
  • training
  • onsite quality control
  • performance testing
  • certification
  • guarantee

Advanced Energy assisted residential home builder Rob Howard to make his homes more energy efficient by using SystemVision. In September, Howard submitted a SystemVision inspired home to the EnergyValue Housing Awards (EVHA), sponsored by the National Association of Builders. EVHA recently awarded Howard's energy efficient home honorable mention (third place) for affordable housing. The EnvergyValue Housing Awards honor builders who voluntarily integrate energy efficiency into the design, construction, and marketing of new homes. The awards program also honors individuals who educate the home building industry and the public about successful approaches to energy efficient construction.

Impacting Communities
Advanced Energy and the Durham Habitat for Humanity program recently reached a milestone, completing their 500th and 150th houses respectively. Advanced Energy helped in the construction of the house by providing training and technical support services that will eventually lead to improved health, safety, durability, comfort and energy efficiency. Habitat for Humanity consists of volunteers who build houses to help low income families afford homes.

The public announcement of this milestone was made by recently re-elected U.S. Congressman David Price (4th District, North Carolina), who also helped with final construction and landscaping details.

Many volunteers pitched in to help with the completion of a Durham Habitat for Humanity Home. The home was built to Advanced
Energy's SystemVision standards to offer the homeowner a guarantee on the heating and cooling portion of her electric bill.
