Schneider Electric makes bid for $1 Million Order

Schneider Electric recently received testing and validation of torque performance for their Telemecanique® brand Altivar® 71 Variable Frequency AC Drive [VFD], giving them a sales opportunity in excess of $1 million.

Testing and validation was performed by Advanced Energy’s motors and drives experts in the company’s nationally accredited lab as a result of a potential customer asking Schneider Electric to show that their Telemecanique Altivar 71 VFD met their unique specification.

The potential customer was seeking a drive that would help avoid shearing motor and pump shafts in a deep well drilling and pumping application. By effectively controlling the motor torque during transient load and locked rotor conditions, damage to expensive equipment and significant down time could be avoided.

In response to the customer’s inquiry, Schneider Electric contacted Advanced Energy to perform a demonstration of their drive, the Altivar 71, under controlled laboratory conditions and thus provide the most compelling method to verify the torque limiting feature of the drive.

“We strategically chose Advanced Energy’s Motors and Drives Laboratory because of their third party status and the independent credibility they bring to this type of high performance analysis,” said Ivan Spronk, AC Drive Product Line Manager for Schneider Electric. “They had the appropriate equipment, data processing power and ability to respond within our quick turnaround time required by our prospective client.”

From the time of the initial request by Schneider Electric to the date of demonstration, only 15 days elapsed. During this time, Advanced Energy provided a compatible load motor used during the test / demonstration, making arrangements for the potential client to witness the set of test conditions that they specified.

An Advanced Energy dynamometer was used to provide the transient load. The specified test conditions were demonstrated for the client, as well as several unspecified conditions that were requested at the time of the demonstration. The result of this demonstration, Schneider Electric’s client’s performance conditions were verified, and Schneider Electric was approved a supplier for this drive.
