Advanced Energy’s John Tooley Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Raleigh, N.C. (May 7, 2009)—Nationally recognized applied building science expert, John Tooley of Advanced Energy, was inducted into the Building Performance Hall of Fame Tuesday, April 28 during the Affordable Comfort Inc. (ACI) opening plenary session held in Kansas City, Mo.

Tooley was one of only three people nominated by his peers and chosen by a panel of current Hall of Fame members to be inducted this year. Those inducted to the Hall of Fame must have provided significant and lasting contributions to the building performance industry.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for doing work I love,” he said. “We have to continue improving the home building process. I believe people want to do the right thing, but need help to understand how to make it happen. I was out in the field doing that work for years, so I understand that.”

Tooley is often called a pioneer in the building industry for challenging conventional practices. He is devoted to making improvements and helping the people in the industry apply best practices. Tooley joined Advanced Energy, a resource for innovative and market-based approaches to energy issues, in 1996 and now leads workshops and training sessions nationwide. He works with contractors, builders, product manufacturers and utilities to explain best practices and how to work in unison to make improvements so that everyone benefits.

The Building Performance Institute calls Tooley the “leading voice for more than two decades on practical, innovative strategies for tackling the most complicated issues in the field of building performance” according to the organization’s Web site, and “his energy in addressing the issues of the day keeps him at the forefront of crisp thinking and new ideas.”

It is not the first time Tooley has been recognized for his efforts. He has also earned a Joule Award and Legacy Award from the Energy and Environmental Building Association, a National Energy Award from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Florida Governor’s Energy Award.

Known for his energy as a presenter in the industry, Tooley has been the keynote speaker at numerous conferences, including the 2008 Fourth Annual North Carolina ENERGY STAR® Conference and the 2008 Energy Out West conference.
