Advanced Energy President Receives Distinguished Service Award (Raleigh, N.C. — October 28, 2011) Dr. Robert K. Koger, President of Advanced Energy, was recently honored at the annual electric and gas conference held by the Bonbright Center of the University of Georgia. Koger received the center's 2011 Distinguished Service Award at the conference, held September 15-16, 2011, in Atlanta. This award recognizes both Koger's achievements during his career at the North Carolina Utilities Commission, as well as his more recent work at Advanced Energy. In his 22 years with the Commisson, Koger was a leader for fair regulations that positively impacted not only the environment, but the rate payers of North Carolina. While he was serving as the chair of the Commission in 1980, the Commisson initiated the formation of the nonprofit corporation Advanced Energy, one of the first organizations in the nation established with the goal of limiting the need for increases in electric rates through the implementation and promotion of energy efficiency, demand response and alternative and renewable electric generation sources. Koger joined Advanced Energy in late 1988. He took subsequent leaves of absences to return to the Commission in 1999 and 2005 to serve six-month interim appointments at the request of the then governors. Koger's wide-ranging energy experience also includes participation on several important committees including the Executive Committee of the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners (NARUC), President of the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Commissioners (SEARUC) and a 10-year membership on the Advisory Council of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). The International Association of Energy Engineers honored Koger as Energy Executive of the Year in 1991. More recently Koger received a national public leadership award for his efforts to promote energy efficiency from the U.S. Energy Association and Johnson Controls, Inc. at their 2006 Energy Efficiency Forum held in Washington, D.C. In 2008, the Triangle Business Journal recognized Koger as Green Nonprofit Leader of the Year. About the James C. Bonbright Utilities Center About Advanced Energy
