“SystemVision wins 2011 RESNET Market Transformation Award — Advanced Energy earns reward for promoting affordable housing through energy efficiency in N.C. Raleigh, N.C. (April 14, 2011) SystemVision, Advanced Energy's affordable housing program, was awarded the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) 2011 Market Transformation Award for having the most significant impact on its housing market through providing quality home energy services. “In 2001, less than 10 percent of affordable single-family homes built in North Carolina had energy-efficient certifications,” said Krista Egger, director, Affordable Housing, Advanced Energy. “Now, more than 75 percent are SystemVision certified. To date, Advanced Energy has certified more than 2,500 homes in the state, diverting more than $3.4 million in energy costs from affordable housing homeowners in North Carolina.” In 2001, less than 10 percent of affordable single-family homes built in North Carolina had energy-efficient certifications," said Krista Egger, director, Affordable Housing, Advanced Energy. "Now, more than 75 percent are SystemVision certified. To date, Advanced Energy has certified more than 2,500 homes in the state, diverting more than $3.4 million in energy costs from affordable housing homeowners in North Carolina." Each SystemVision home is ENERGY STAR® certified and comes with a heating and cooling and comfort guarantee. Advanced Energy monitors the energy use of each home for two years to ensure energy usage does not exceed the guarantee, which is typically around $25 to $30 in heating and cooling costs each month. If a home exceeds the guarantee, Advanced Energy addresses any issue and pays back the difference to the homeowner. “Saving even $20 a month on energy costs is significant for North Carolina's working families,” said Bob Kucab, executive director of the N.C. Housing Finance Agency. “With Advanced Energy's technical expertise, we're able to offer homes that are not only affordable to purchase, but affordable to operate and comfortable to live in as well.” 2011 marks the 10-year anniversary of SystemVision — the only guaranteed affordable housing program in the nation. SystemVision homes are proven to be at least 15 percent more energy–efficient than standard code–built homes. Advanced Energy has certified homes in more than half of the state's counties and supports both metropolitan and rural areas. “It's been an honor to be a part of a program that has been creating win–win–win situations in North Carolina for the last decade,” said Keith Aldridge, vice president, Applied Building Science, Advanced Energy. “SystemVision keeps homes affordable and enjoyable for families in need, helps builders and developers improve their building practices and promotes a healthy environment through energy efficiency.” About SystemVision The success of SystemVision would not be possible without the support and dedication of its partner organizations. Sixty–eight affordable housing developers in North Carolina participated in SystemVision in 2009, with numerous general contractor, trade contractor and volunteer partners. Advanced Energy trains the construction teams in the implementation of the technical standards, providing technical expertise throughout the entire program. SystemVision standards cover: air tightness and framing; ventilation and moisture management; insulation and windows; HVAC sizing and installation and duct tightness; pressure balancing; combustion safety and appliances. In 2010 Advanced Energy added an online tool so developer and builder partners can view the progress of their homes through SystemVision and gauge their strengths and weaknesses over time.
