Process Technologies
Advanced Energy has experience applying a wide range of technologies to various industrial processes. Listed below are brief explanations of each technology with links to more detailed information.
Infrared
Many industrial heating processes cure a coating or remove moisture. If this heating is limited to the surface, then IR may be the most economical method to achieve this heating. Industrial infrared elements work like those in a toaster and are designed to emit at certain wavelengths depending on the application. IR is typically much faster than hot air convection. Microwave
Industrial microwave ovens operate on the same principal as those used in your kitchen. Microwave radiation is ideal for removing moisture from bulky products and is able to penetrate more deeply than infrared. Microwave drying allows much faster line speeds than typical hot air convection. For more information, click here.
Radio Frequency
Similar to microwaves, radio frequency ovens operate on the same principle and are able to drive moisture from bulky products very quickly. Initial costs for these ovens are typically higher than for other electrotechnologies. For more information, click here.
Induction
Metal products can be rapidly heated by inducing an electric current in the part. Induction heaters are custom designed to provide the desired hardness and depth in a specific area. For more information, click here.
Resistance
Electric resistance elements can be used to directly heat a process fluid or to provide energy to a heat transfer medium such as oil or Dowtherm. Alternately, electric current may be passed through many metal parts to directly heat the product using internal resistance. For more information, click here.
Ultraviolet
Most paint of product coating requires hot air to cure. However, there are specially formulated coatings that cure under ultraviolet lights. Ultraviolet curing is much more rapid that convection drying. Users typically find that higher coating costs are offset by higher production speeds. For more information, click here.
Hot Air and Steam
Despite the higher production speeds capable with electrotechnologies, hot air and steam will continue to play a role in many industrial facilities. Advanced Energy is able to evaluate these processes and recommend more cost effective methods for hot air or steam production. For more information on hot air, click here.
