Induction Heating
Induction
heating is a heat transfer technology where an electromagnetic
current is caused to flow through the material or its container.
Induction heating produces high local temperatures very quickly
— in less than one second of residence time — especially
in conductive materials, such as metals.
Induction heating is a non-contact method — heat is
generated only in the part, not in the surrounding area. What's more, the location to be heated can be
very specifically defined and achieves accurate and consistent
results.
Induction heating is frequently used in industrial situations
where reduced residence time and localized heating accelerate
the production process, and produce higher quality goods.
Industrial Applications
- Applying tamper-proof lids to products
- Brazing components without heating an entire part
- Creating high-strength, long-wearing parts, such as bearing
races and gear teeth
- Selectively heating a section of a metal part
Industrial Benefits
- No energy loss during idle time
- Very small heat loss to room
- Over 90% efficient in converting energy to heat
- Rapid heat-up to high temperatures, resulting in less residence
time
- Custom made to application; right-size footprint
- Localized heating; no risk in heating undesired components
Advanced Energy's Services
Induction heating is a proven heat process technology that
is effective, reliable and cost-efficient for many industrial
applications. As a nonprofit, independent organization, Advanced
Energy can evaluate, test and recommend unbiased solutions to
help you meet your objectives.
- If you are already using induction heating, we can review
your process and equipment to ensure optimal production quality,
product quality and environmental compliance.
- If you have made the decision to use induction heating,
we can evaluate your implementation plan and validate your
approach — our specialists can also assist you with
vendor contact information, establishing the bid process and
any other start-up issues.
- If you are considering induction heating for an industrial
application, we can work with you as a trusted resource throughout
the process (from evaluation through implementation). We can
even provide you with economic and return-on-investment information
to help you justify the purchase.
- At our state-of-the-art laboratory, you can see demonstrations
of induction heating technology. We can apply extensive temperature
monitoring, including IR thermography, to evaluate potential
solutions.
