Estimates from the International Energy Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) state electric motor systems account for approximately 50 percent of electric energy generated in the world. Because of this many countries have laws regulating Minimum Efficiency Performance Standards (MEPS) for electric motors and small electric motors.

The DOE started discussing electric motor efficiency in 1992. Advanced Energy was there then and today we still provide comments to the public process. In the past 10 years many new laws have been enacted and Advanced Energy has contributed with other stakeholders to the process. We actively participate in the U.S. rule making process and provide links to key documents here. We have also assisted other countries with advice and consulting to establish MEPS and test labs capable of verifying motor efficiency compliance.
