More than just motors and drives test programs

Our clients work with Advanced Energy for nationally accredited electric motor and drives testing and professional consulting services. You know that we are an unbiased organization, committed to a future in which the energy needs of all are met at reasonable costs with the least negative consequences.

Did you know that we offer these services to any industry using motors and drives? Most recently, we helped lead the deployment of the nation's first commercially produced plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with the Plug-In Hybrid Electric School Bus Project.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric School Bus Project
As part of the Plug-In Hybrid Electric School Bus Project, evaluation of requirements and preparation of specifications for the electric motor and drive were conducted by Advanced Energy. The project began with recognition of the benefits the innovative technology would bring to the school bus industry, and led to feasibility and business studies that supported the launch of the project in 2002.

With the support of an advisory group and key sponsors, the purchase of 20 school buses nationwide became a reality last year. Eight buses have already been deployed, and more are scheduled nationwide in 2007. These school buses are expected to decrease the consumption of diesel fuel by approximately one-third, resulting in an enormous positive impact for all project partners and the environment.

In the process of implementing this initial 20 bus program, Advanced Energy experts identified potential component suppliers. As more of these buses are deployed, the growing interest will lead to another, larger bus purchase in the near future. It is our objective that the full scale plug-in hybrid electric school bus purchase include the best products and technology available to create a clean, efficient, economical alternative to conventional approaches. With Advanced Energy's collaborative lead, the industry has the first commercially manufactured plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with the Plug-In Hybrid Electric School Bus Project.

Looking to the future, Advanced Energy will continue to perform tests in our motor and drives test lab for the hybrid and fully electric vehicle industries that can be considered for use in the full scale implementation of the Plug-in Hybrid School Bus Project.
