Quality is important in any process, and especially in motor repair. If you are buying motor repair you should have a specification that your motor repair vendor can meet. If you are selling motor repair, you should have a documented quality process to meet the increasing energy demands of your customers.
Advanced Energy offers a quality assurance program for motor repair called Proven Efficiency Verification (PEV) that mutually benefits motor repair purchasers and providers. In the first year, PEV includes a thorough onsite evaluation of the motor service center's ability to maintain efficiency during the repair process. Once completed, before and after repair testing for motor efficiency is conducted at Advanced Energy’s accredited laboratory to validate the motor service center's ability to maintain efficiency during rewind. Every year on the anniversary date of certification our PEV clients are required to complete a renewal application and test motors before and after repair to demonstrate nothing has changed over time. In the fifth year, or any year when significant change has occurred (such as change in ownership or location) a second audit of the facility is required in addition to the before and after repair testing requirement. For more specific information please visit our website and download a PEV application.
Presently there are five repair shops certified to the PEV standards, and another five are in the process of becoming certified. Our two longest participating PEV clients were recently solicited by Advanced Energy to provide letters of support for a North Carolina grant opportunity we are seeking. This grant would provide assistance to motor service centers in North Carolina seeking the PEV certification if successful. The funding comes from the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act (stimulus bill) and focuses on green job development in our state. The letters we received from our PEV clients clearly demonstrate the value our program has provided them. Both credit the PEV program for helping bring change and a commitment to continual improvement to their shops which has enabled them to significantly grow their business. Combined, both shops have added 85 new employees since joining the PEV program. One shop credits PEV with helping grow itsrevenues by 47%. PEV certified shops include:
American Electric Motors, Memphis, TN.
Hupp Electric Motors, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Industrial Electric Motor Works, Inc., Meridian, Mississippi
Industrial Motor Services, a division of the Electrical Equipment Company of Richmond, Va.
Shermco Industries, Inc. -- Irving, Texas.
You have paid for efficient motors; keep them that way with PEV repairs.
Certifications
Advanced Energy is the only independently operated National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) electric motor test facility in North America. This program is administered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). As a result of our continued quality programs and periodic audits by NIST, our current certification through September 30, 2010 has been extended through September 30, 2011.
