Greater Triangle PEV Readiness Plan- OPEN FOR REVIEW!

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the development of the Triangle’s first plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) Readiness Plan!

This plan was created through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy for PEV Planning planning titled- “NC PEV Readiness Initiative: Plugging-in from Mountains to Sea”. The Greater Triangle PEV Plan will be completed in conjunction with a statewide plan called the NC PEV Roadmap and three other regional readiness plans in the Charlotte, Piedmont Triad and Asheville areas.

The content of the plan was heavily driven by input and feedback from the stakeholders in the Triangle. Monthly steering committee meetings were held from March through August, 2012. covering the six planning areas below:

  • Vehicles
  • Infrastructure
  • Policy, Codes and Standards
  • Incentives
  • Economic Development
  • Education and Outreach

Triangle Electric Vehicle (EV) Awareness Week, Monday, October 1 – Saturday, October 6, 2012.

Join the Triangle Region as we celebrate driving the future, today!

The Triangle Region will host a Triangle Electric Vehicle (EV) Awareness Week, Monday, October 1 – Saturday, October 6, 2012. During Triangle EV Awareness Week, Raleigh, Cary and Durham will host its own EV Awareness event to promote electric transportation and educate the public on what it means to be a PEV ready region. This week promises to be fun, educational and the first of its kind in North Carolina!

Join the celebration!  We invite you to share with us your vision of our electric transportation future during the Triangle Region’s EV Awareness Week!

Triangle Electric Vehicle (EV) Awareness Week Kick-off Event at Qualcomm

Join us for lunch as we celebrate the kick-off of EV Awareness Week with local City officials and local commuters! Hear from local EV owners about their experiences driving electric in the Triangle region and test drive a Nissan LEAF!  Hurry and register now! Space is limited! Did you know that Cary’s Green McDonalds offers free level 2 charging? Cary’s Green McDonalds will host a family fun night with a focus on electric vehicles. Bring your family to McDonalds and enjoy face painting, balloon animals, a children’s activity based around energy and our electric vehicle display! Also, stop by for your chance to spin the McDonalds Prize Wheel and win cool prizes!

First Friday “Revenge of the Electric Car” movie showing at Marbles Museum

Marbles Museum is kicking off National Energy Month with a focus on electric vehicles! Join us for  a free movie screening of “Revenge of the Electric Car” , our electric vehicle display on Marble’s courtyard and a special Ride-n-Drive event that will put you behind the wheels of a Nissan LEAF! Also, help us recognize local EV advocates who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support electric vehicles in the Triangle region. This event will include refreshments. Marbles will also feature activities around energy and electric vehicles for the children! The regular admission fee will apply for activities by Marbles and play in the museum.

Raleigh Elks Lodge Fall Festival – Electric Vehicle Rally

Do you drive electric? If you have a converted electric vehicle, a plug in hybrid electric vehicle or an all electric vehicle, we invite you to participate in our Electric Vehicle Display at the Raleigh Elks Lodge Fall Festival! Meet other electric vehicle owners in the region, enjoy good music and fun, and tell others why you drive electric! Space is limited for the EV display, so register now to reserve your spot!

Fall Festival 2012 – is our 1st annual Car & Bike Show, Crafter & Flea Market, Elk’s Yard Sale, Bake Sale and Chicken BBQ. The Elks is a non-profit organization and proceeds from this event will benefit Veterans in the VA Hospital in Durham, the Fayetteville & Salisbury VA Nursing Homes. We will have area Public Service Vehicles & the Elks Drug Awareness Van. 3 bands are scheduled to play throughout the day for your enjoyment.

Triangle PEV Readiness Plan- DRAFT Outline Open for Review

The Triangle’s first electric vehicle readiness plan will be released by the end of this year, 2012. The content of the plan is heavily driven by input and feedback from the stakeholders in the Triangle. Monthly steering committee meetings have been held since March, 2012 to and have covered six planning areas for electric vehicles including:

Advanced Energy and Triangle J COG have created a draft outline for the plan based on the guidance from the U.S. Department of Energy for this PEV planning grant (NC PEV Initiative: Plugging in from Mountains to Sea) and the feedback from the steering committee through this process.

Triangle Plug-In Electric Vehicle Planning Survey

All Stakeholders should consider taking a moment to fill out the Triangle Plug-in Electric Vehicle Planning Survey. These results will be incorporated into the Triangle PEV Readiness Plan, led by Advanced Energy and Triangle J Council of Governments, which will be released by the end of the year 2012. The survey can be found here.

Stakeholders wishing to become more involved can attend EV Awareness Week activities which will be held through the Triangle the week of October 1st-6th. Details about this exciting week of events will be announced on this blog soon.

August 1st Triangle PEV Readiness Plan Meeting

Thanks to everyone who attended the last Triangle PEV Readiness Plan Meeting at Central Carolina Community College’s Pittsboro Campus! The meeting was very successful and stakeholders participated in engaging discussions on the topics of Policy, Codes & Standards as well as Education & Outreach. June 25th Triangle Meeting

Stakeholders from across the triangle region met on Monday, June 25th, to discuss the topics of Economic Development and Infrastructure as they relate to PEVs. The agenda from the meeting can be found here, and the presentation here.

This meeting was held at the Capital Area Transit Operations Office in Raleigh. Meeting attendees were invited to attend a quick tour of the facilities following the meeting. The Capital Area Transit Operations Office’s fleet charging station, and one of their two Nissan LEAFs, are pictured below:

The Triangle PEV Readiness Plan Meeting is next week!

This meeting will be held in order to further discuss the creation of the Triangle region’s Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) Readiness Plan as part of the NC PEV Readiness Initiative: Plugging in from Mountains to Sea (M2S) project. The project includes multiple components with both local and state applicability. The statewide PEV Taskforce is developing a PEV readiness roadmap that will include recommendations for policy changes and other initiatives across North Carolina. In addition to the state taskforce, four regions – Asheville, Charlotte, the Triad and the Triangle – have created individual stakeholder groups and are developing regional plans addressing specific steps needed to prepare their community for PEVs.

The June 25th event will be held in Raleigh and will focus on Infrastructure and Economic Development issues for the Triangle region’s PEV Readiness Plan.

Orange County Installs Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

“Orange County has installed twelve electric car charging stations for use by the general public.  The new stations were funded by the US Department of Energy and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the Carolina Blue Skies and Green Jobs Initiative led by the Triangle J Council of Governments.” Click here to view the entire press release by Orange County.
