Advanced Energy is happy to welcome back Brett Elizondo as a co-op through North Carolina State University’s Cooperative Education Program. Brett first joined the Motors and Drives lab last summer and has returned for his second rotation. Born and raised in Raleigh, Brett is currently majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in Spanish.
Growing up, Brett enjoyed math and science and knew he wanted to pursue engineering in college. He decided to focus on mechanical engineering just prior to his freshman year, after completing externships at Caterpillar Inc. and Red Hat Inc. Brett was drawn to mechanical engineering for its emphasis on the design and operation of machinery. When Brett found the co-op opening at Advanced Energy, he knew it would be a great fit and an excellent opportunity to get hands-on experience. It also aligned well with his passion for renewable energy.
After learning the ropes during his first rotation, Brett now has additional independence and can take on more of a mentoring role, showing newer co-ops how to test, handle and deconstruct motors. Brett will return for one more rotation next fall. He is excited to continue to gain first-hand knowledge and be able to apply his experience and skills. The Motors and Drives team is glad to have him back!
