Advanced Energy is excited to welcome Jakob Sjostrand as a Utility Distribution Engineering Technologist. Jakob is originally from Sweden but moved to the U.S. at a young age. He grew up outside Boone, North Carolina, and went on to attend Appalachian State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sustainable development.
After a few years working in residential construction and trail building, Jakob returned to Appalachian State and graduated with a master’s degree in sustainable technology and the built environment. His time in graduate school was focused on solar technology, and he had the opportunity to apply his knowledge through an internship at Carolina Solar Services. Eventually, this internship turned into a full-time position in which Jakob was responsible for inspecting commercial- and utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities.
Jakob saw the opening at Advanced Energy as his next challenge and a chance to learn a different side of solar technology. In his new role, he will spend a lot of time in the field, supporting Advanced Energy’s Solar Interconnection Commissioning Program to ensure that independent power producer facilities that are interconnected to the utility grid comply with necessary documentation, codes and standards. He will be helping to troubleshoot PV systems and write reports detailing the findings.
When he’s not working, Jakob enjoys live music, drawing and playing guitar. He is also a big fan of Liverpool F.C.
Jakob’s experience in sustainability and solar inspections makes him a great fit for Advanced Energy’s solar team. He is eager to contribute his knowledge and skills, and they are likewise excited to have him on board.
