Advanced Energy and the solar team are excited to welcome Julia Szeto as an electrical engineer. Julia grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from North Carolina State University. After working a few years in the solar industry, she returned to NC State for a master’s degree in electric power systems engineering. She also just recently earned her Professional Engineers license.
Julia has long been interested in environmental sustainability and solar technology, which inspired her to transition from chemistry to renewable energy. Over the last decade, she has held several roles in solar, primarily designing and maintaining documentation and ensuring equipment performs as expected. She most recently worked for Cypress Creek Renewables as a project engineer.
Julia loves to learn, and she saw the opportunity at Advanced Energy as a way to expand her expertise and experience the solar market from a new perspective. Most of her prior responsibilities kept her in an office, but she would now get to gain more hands-on involvement in the field.
As an electrical engineer, Julia will be performing on-site inspections of solar facilities through Advanced Energy’s Solar Interconnection Commissioning Program, which ensures that independent power producer facilities that are interconnected to the utility grid comply with necessary documentation, codes and standards. She will help troubleshoot photovoltaic systems and write reports detailing the findings.
Outside of work, Julia enjoys looking after and spending time with her two young daughters. When she has any extra availability, she likes to run and race triathlons.
Julia’s background in the solar world and her enthusiasm for learning make her an excellent fit for Advanced Energy. The solar team is happy to have her on board, and she is eager to contribute her knowledge and skills.
