Advanced Energy Welcomes Donald Cunningham as an Information Systems Specialist

Advanced Energy is excited to welcome Donald Cunningham as an information systems specialist. Donald has lived in North Carolina his whole life — he was born in Asheboro and raised in Durham, and he went on to attend North Carolina Central University, where he studied computer information systems.

Donald’s fascination with computers started at a young age. When he was in middle school, his family’s desktop computer broke down. Donald convinced his parents to hold off on buying a new one and instead built one — over two weeks — from scratch. He was hooked. He took a computer engineering pathway in high school and then furthered that in college.

Donald has a range of IT experience across a variety of environments. He most recently worked in IT infrastructure for Pentair but unfortunately ended up a casualty of corporate restructuring. He considered moving on from IT, but the opening at Advanced Energy piqued his interest. He liked the smaller company size and hybrid work schedule, and although he hadn’t been at a nonprofit before, he felt ready for the challenge.

Donald joined Advanced Energy about a month ago and is already handling a number of IT responsibilities. He is assisting with implementing and rolling out new systems, responding to help desk requests, and managing equipment and new laptop needs. On top of this, he is touching up his existing skills and learning new ones, and is contributing to IT’s plans for Advanced Energy’s upcoming office move in January.

In his spare time, Donald enjoys playing saxophone, camping, hiking and rollerblading. He also likes video games, particularly role-playing games, and reading.

Donald’s varied experience and eagerness to learn make him a great fit for Advanced Energy, and we’re excited to have him on board.
