Jobs Timeline

Beginning January 1, 2014 credentialed HVAC Contractors are required by the ENERGY STAR Certified New Homes program to have no less than five of their annual jobs in the program reviewed by their credentialing provider. HVAC contractors should use this requirement as an opportunity to consult with and obtain quality assurance from a third–party technical expert on their most difficult jobs, their first jobs in the program, jobs with new design plans or others they are not quite sure about. We're here to help you. This review can save your company time and money while also assuring the quality of your work.

Best Practices for Performing ENERGY STAR Certified New Homes Program Jobs:
Contact us with questions on any part of your ENERGY STAR job or to request a discussion on your individual project.

Job Review Requirements:
    For ENERGY STAR:
  • No less than five jobs reviewed annually.
  • If your company performed none or less than five jobs in the prior 12 months, then 100 percent of your jobs up to five must be reviewed.
    For our program:
  • The five jobs submitted by your company to meet the minimum ENERGY STAR requirement must have been completed in the past 30 calendar days (these jobs will receive a full review) or can be underway at the time of submittal so that your initial submittal will receive an Install Ready review now, followed by a Job Complete review upon completion.
  • Multi–family job submittals are accepted, but different floor plans must be used when submitting for the minimum requirement.
Elective Job Reviews: To voluntarily submit additional jobs for third–party expert review and feedback, follow the below process and also pay the required $50 elective job review fee by clicking here.

Job Submittal Process: For your first, hardest or newest ENERGY STAR Certified New Homes program installations, follow the process provided below to submit your jobs for review. Jobs may be submitted individually or together.

Install Ready Submittal Steps
Timing Just before your system design is finalized and the equipment has been ordered.
Send us your job documents and we'll let you know if your job is designed to meet ENERGY STAR requirements.
Same
Description This step saves all parties involved time and money by assuring that the design provided will meet the ENERGY STAR requirements, and should be performed before equipment is purchased and design plans are finalized.
If your design plan doesn't meet the ENERGY STAR requirements, we'll let you know why and how to correct it.
If it does, we'll let you know if any time savings, cost savings or quality improvements that can be made.
The steps provided on the left must be completed for each unit plan and orientation combination. Each plan/orientation combination is considered one instance in our program and must be submitted individually. If it is more convenient to send the load calculation files for each unit, that can be done instead.
Action Prepare and submit your job documents:
  1. ENERGY STAR Checklist with completed sections 1–5.
  2. o Each system requires its own checklist, but each unit/house is considered a singular job for our program.
  3. Completed design files (Manual D, J, and S) from ACCA–approved sizing software (Manual D, J, and S) or equivalent design method.
  4. Email scanned documents and any software files to HVAC@advancedenergy.org.
We'll review your job within 48–72 hours and notify you via email of the results.

If you'd like to discuss your results with one of our technical experts, let us know via email or phone and we'll setup time to speak with you.

Job Complete Submittal Steps
Timing The checklist will be finalized around the same time as the homeowner is moving into the house (after permanent power is connected) and while the HVAC systems are being started/commissioned.
Send us your job documents once these steps are complete to receive a final review of your job.
Same
Description With your job now complete, our second review can take place. The purpose of this review is to reconcile what actually happened during install and start–up with what was included in the design plans.
Feedback will be provided on how this job could have been improved, if at all, and what your company can do on future install and start–ups to save time, save money and improve the quality of your installation work.
The checklist submitted in this step must be for the same unit/home as provided in the previous.
The steps provided on the left must be completed for each unit (not unit plan and orientation combination). At this point in the job process, each unit is considered its own instance and must have its own ENERGY STAR Checklist.
Action Prepare and submit your job documents:

  2. Required attachments listed on the checklist (e.g. Balancing Reports, others)

If you'd like to discuss your results with one of our technical experts, let us know via email or phone and we'll setup time to speak with you.
