For Contractors

How it Works

To run smoothly and efficiently, your entire home needs a check-up. North Carolina Home Performance with ENERGY STAR works with only the highest qualified contractors to help you improve your home for maximum results. Here's how it works:

  • Contractor

    1 / Find a Contractor / Schedule an Assessment

The North Carolina Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program only uses contractors who are Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified and who have completed Advanced Energy's training to ensure the quality, integrity and savings of the audits and work performed.

Our How to Participate page will refer you to an approved NC Home Performance Contractor who will schedule your home assessment.

  • Assessment

    2 / Contractor Conducts Assessment

Your NC Home Performance Contractor will conduct a thorough home assessment which includes an inspection of your heating and cooling system, windows, insulation and airflow into and out of your home.

At the end of the assessment, your contractor will provide a comprehensive report of the findings that you can use to determine which improvements will get the best results for your home.

  • Decide

    3 / Decide on Upgrades

The comprehensive home assessment report will help you understand and prioritize the areas in your home that can be improved.

Your Home Performance contractor will recommend cost-effective improvements that will yield the best results for you and your family, but the decision is totally up to you.

  • Perform the Work

    4 / Perform the Work

Once you select the improvements that fit your needs and budget, your contractor will help you get the job done.

  • Certification

    5 / Ensure Quality / Certification

Quality is one of the most important factors in the NC Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program. To ensure the work done in your home will achieve the results you want, quality control inspections are conducted during upgrades and after work is completed.

After Advanced Energy has verified the quality of the upgrades installed, homeowners will receive a certificate explaining what improvements were made and their results (i.e., how much energy is saved, etc.).
