Advanced Energy Welcomes Bob Goodson as President and Executive Director
Advanced Energy is excited to announce that Mr. Robert (Bob) Goodson has joined the company as its new president and executive director. Mr. Goodson comes to Advanced Energy with nearly 50 years of professional experience in the business, engineering and utility worlds.
Mr. Goodson spent the previous 19 years in executive roles with North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives, first with their market research and energy services subsidiary, TSE Services, and then with the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives (NCAEC). Over this period, he grew deeply familiar with Advanced Energy, its work and its employees. He played a large role in the founding of NC GreenPower, Advanced Energy’s renewable energy subsidiary, and was chairman of its board of directors for the first 15 years of the organization, which also afforded him a position on Advanced Energy’s board. Additionally, Mr. Goodson worked closely with Advanced Energy on product testing while at TSE Services and NCAEC.
Mr. Goodson grew up outside Chattanooga, Tennessee, and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in mechanical engineering. His career began in nuclear power plant design and construction with Bechtel Power Corporation and Combustion Engineering, Inc. He then transitioned to the utility industry with Entergy Corporation in New Orleans, where he developed a focus on strategic and corporate planning. Following more than a decade at Entergy, he headed home to Tennessee as an executive with the Tennessee Valley Authority. He then returned to Entergy to lead its marketing and sales efforts before beginning with North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives.
Mr. Goodson’s familiarity with Advanced Energy and his long and diverse history of professional success will allow him to effectively respond to the challenges facing the energy industry and utilities community. “The energy industry is constantly, and rapidly, changing,” he noted. “I believe Advanced Energy will continue to help influence that change and be a valuable partner to electric utilities as they prepare for the future.”
