Advanced Energy Welcomes Onté Johnson as a Project Manager
Advanced Energy is excited to welcome Onté Johnson as a new project manager. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public policy, both from Stony Brook University.

Onté has long had a passion for education and politics, but a focus on environmental issues came in 2010. At the time, he was working as a program manager for the Boy Scouts of America and saw firsthand the effects of poor air quality on children’s health. He later managed a statewide campaign with the Sierra Club in Connecticut to make the state coal-free and transition it to a clean energy future.
Since moving to North Carolina in 2015, Onté has worked with a variety of environmental and clean energy–focused organizations. For example, while a campaign coordinator for the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association, he served as the team lead for the North Carolina Energy Efficiency Roadmap’s education theme, which gave recommendations to the state’s Clean Energy Plan. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Onté was an adjunct professor and facilitated an honors leadership course at Bennett College. He currently sits on the board of Toxic Free NC.
Onté learned about Advanced Energy through his involvement in North Carolina’s environmental sphere. When he discovered the project manager position, it seemed like a good match. It aligned with his interest in clean energy and would allow him to interact and collaborate with stakeholders across the industry.
Although Onté started just a few weeks ago, he is already getting up to speed on several projects, most in the residential sector.
When he is not working, Onté enjoys playing chess and spending time with his wife and two kids. He also likes to stay active — he plays basketball and competed in rugby and football in college — and is eager to get back into traveling.
Onté’s prior experience in project coordination and management and his enthusiasm for environmental sustainability make him a great fit for Advanced Energy. He is excited to contribute his knowledge and skills, and the team is glad to have him on board.
