Advanced Energy Welcomes Shawn Allred as an Electrical Systems Consultant

Advanced Energy is excited to welcome Shawn Allred as an Electrical Systems Consultant working with the solar team. Shawn was born in Louisiana and grew up in Asheboro, North Carolina. He recently graduated from North Carolina State University where he studied electrical engineering and minored in nano-science and technology.

Shawn has always had a knack for math, and engineering seemed like a great fit. From there, he became interested in electric power and renewable energy, and specifically solar technology. While studying at NC State, he participated in the university’s Cooperative Education Program, which allowed him to get hands-on experience working for the City of Rocky Mount and learn in-depth about electric utilities.

Shawn actually became aware of Advanced Energy a few years ago when he was first exploring potential co-op opportunities. Already familiar with the company, he knew the engineer position would be a good match and a way to expand on what he learned in the classroom and during his co-op rotations.

In his new role, he will spend much of his time in the field, supporting Advanced Energy’s Solar Interconnection Commissioning Program to ensure that independent power producer facilities that are interconnected to the utility grid comply with necessary documentation, codes and standards. He will help troubleshoot photovoltaic systems and write reports detailing the findings.

In his spare time, Shawn enjoys cooking (his favorite dish to make is jambalaya), homebrewing (he prefers IPAs) and running.

Shawn is eager to contribute his knowledge and skills to support Advanced Energy’s solar work, and the team is happy to have him on board.
