Advanced Energy Welcomes Viviana Gomez as a Lead Energy Consultant

Advanced Energy is excited to welcome Viviana Gomez as a lead energy consultant with our power systems team. Viviana is from the city of Bucaramanga on the east side of Colombia.

Her father, who was a civil engineer, inspired her to pursue a career in engineering, though it was the success of another relative that pushed her to the electrical branch. She ended up studying electrical engineering at the Universidad Industrial de Santander and then earned a master’s degree in administrative engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.

Viviana comes to Advanced Energy with a wealth of experience across the energy sector. She started out in Medellin, Colombia, at the transmission company Intercolombia S.A. (ISA). After joining as an intern, Viviana obtained a more permanent role working on substations, control and relay testing, and operations.

Her next stop was at Isagen, one of the largest energy companies in Colombia. Over 12 years, Viviana was involved in many facets of power plant acquisition, operation and maintenance, in both engineering and management roles. She primarily worked on hydro facilities but oversaw thermoelectric, solar and wind plants as well.

Viviana and her husband, also an electrical engineer, always dreamed of living in the U.S. In the summer of 2025, they decided to make that dream a reality. They first moved to South Carolina, where they already had friends and owned rental properties, and then relocated to North Carolina when Viviana found the opening at Advanced Energy.

In her new position, Viviana will be commissioning and verifying transmission-connected inverter-based resources. This work ensures that these facilities align with their appropriate agreements and any relevant codes and standards. It’s essential for grid reliability, providing operators with assurance that their sites will perform as expected.

Viviana’s favorite things to do outside of work include reading and being in nature. She enjoys all kinds of books, from novels to discussions of economics, geopolitics and science. And when she and her husband are out and about, they love hiking, fishing and visiting national parks (one of the ways she fell in love with the U.S.).
