Advanced Energy Welcomes William Claffey as a Power Systems Co-op
Advanced Energy is excited to welcome William Claffey as a power systems co-op through NC State University’s Cooperative Education Program. Born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, William is pursuing a dual degree in electrical and computer engineering at NC State. He expects to graduate in December 2028.

William has long been interested in computers and electronics, and the dual-degree program seemed like a great way to take his skills and understanding to the next level. Exploring co-op positions, he was drawn to Advanced Energy for the opportunity to get out in the field and work with technologies that are shaping the future of the energy industry.
As part of our power systems transmission team, William is supporting a group responsible for verifying the safety, reliability and performance of inverter-based resources. Since joining us, he’s been growing his knowledge on the various guidelines, standards and components that are integral to our work. He’ll spend three rotations with Advanced Energy in all, gaining independence and additional responsibilities along the way.
Outside of school and work, William enjoys working out, playing video games with friends and cooking. He’s also a member of NC State’s Engineers’ Council, which plans events, distributes funding and advocates for student interests within the College of Engineering.
