Mike Stowe Achieves Designation as SEP Trainer from U.S. DOE

In the fall of 2016, Michael (Mike) Stowe, senior energy engineer at Advanced Energy, was in the initial group of people to receive official recognition as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Superior Energy Performance (SEP) Trainer. He is currently one of only seven individuals with the designation.

The SEP program is organized by the DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy and helps facilities progress in energy management practices to improve energy efficiency. Facilities can become SEP-certified and recognized by the DOE by investing in an energy management system that meets the ISO 50001 standard and demonstrates verifiable energy savings. Facilities that go through with SEP certification can achieve up to 30 percent improvement in energy performance over 3 years.

The DOE uses a network of trainers to support facilities with implementing ISO 50001 and progressing through the stages of SEP certification. The trainers provide three 2-day in-person sessions along with training webinars and other customizable resources. In January 2015, the DOE realized the need for additional trainers and instructors and began expanding its training network to help facilities with in-house energy management implementation.

With his achievement, Mike is now listed on the Institute for Energy Management Professionals (IEnMP) website as an SEP Trainer, referenced and endorsed by the DOE and able to lead ISO/SEP training events for industrial sites or cohorts with access to all of the DOE ISO/SEP presentations and instructional materials. This designation adds to Mike’s existing certifications as a Certified Practitioner in Energy Management Systems-Industrial (CP EnMS-Industrial) and an SEP Performance Verifier-Industrial (SEP PV-Industrial).

Advanced Energy now has unique and specialized certifications in ISO 50001/SEP industrial energy efficiency and wants to congratulate Mike on this big accomplishment.
