NC GreenPower Welcomes Kimberly Walsh as an Administrative Assistant

NC GreenPower, Advanced Energy’s renewable energy subsidiary, is excited to welcome Kimberly Walsh as an administrative assistant. Kimberly was born in St. Louis, Missouri, but spent most of her childhood and young adulthood in Greensboro, North Carolina. She graduated from UNC Greensboro, where she majored in environmental studies and international studies.

Kimberly has long been environmentally conscious. At 8, she successfully encouraged her family to start recycling at home, and by 13, she had a pretty good idea of what she wanted to pursue in the future: an opportunity that would allow her to integrate her love of the environment and education. Thanks to a diverse friend group growing up, she also developed a fascination with learning about other belief systems and religions, and she had the chance to spend five months in Morocco while in college.

Kimberly was not familiar with Advanced Energy or NC GreenPower when she came across the job listing, but it has turned out to be a great fit. She first joined in June as a temporary employee and recently accepted a permanent position. What motivated her to stay were the people, culture and values of the two organizations.

In her role as an administrative assistant, Kimberly’s primary responsibility is working with local renewable energy generators, who are individuals and companies providing greener electricity to the local electric grid on behalf of NC GreenPower donors. She processes generator utility statements and sends out incentive payments for each kilowatt-hour of green energy that is supplied to the grid.

In addition, Kimberly works to help coordinate NC GreenPower’s Solar Schools program, which provides grants to North Carolina K-12 schools for the installation of a 3-5 kilowatt solar array. Awarded schools also receive an educational package that includes a weather station, real-time monitoring equipment, a STEM curriculum and more. Kimberly acts as the point of contact between NC GreenPower, the schools and the installers of the solar projects.

In her spare time, Kimberly can be found riding motorcycles with her fiancé, hanging out with her fur babies (two dogs and two cats) and stepson, spending time by the lake, Irish dancing or getting excited about Halloween.

Kimberly’s passion for the environment, her experience and her eagerness to learn make her a great addition to the Green Team, and they are glad to have her on board.
