Plug-in NC Works to Get North Carolina a Specialty EV License Plate
Plug-in NC, our statewide program that promotes electric vehicles (EVs) through outreach, education and resource development, is working to get North Carolina a specialty license plate to increase awareness and support of EVs.

For the plate to be considered by the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles and N.C. General Assembly, Plug-in NC needs 500 paid-in-advance applications by February 8, 2020. From there, the approval and issuance process can take up to eight months.
To support this effort and apply, just follow these easy steps:
- Fill out this form.
- Decide whether you want a standard special plate ($10) or a personalized version (an additional $30, verify availability here). The fees associated with these plates are in addition to standard vehicle registration fees.
- Send the completed form and a check in the fee amount (made out to Advanced Energy) to: Advanced Energy Attn: Plug-in NC, 909 Capability Drive, Suite 2100, Raleigh, NC 27606. Advanced Energy is collecting the applications and submitting them to the NCDMV, and will securely shred all checks if the license plate design is not approved.
